Excelsa (Coffea Excelsa or Coffea Liberica var. Dewevrei) is one of the four major species of coffee. This coffee grows in Southeast Asia and only makes up around 7% of the global coffee production. Excelsa is re-classified as a member of the liberica family because of their taxonomical similarities, but many coffee enthusiasts still consider it as a separate species.
Excelsa is known for its distinct sweet smell and fruity taste that is somewhat reminiscent of jackfruit. You can sometimes find these beans in blends because they add complexity and exciting profiles.
